- First Pop'n Music game with a HELL course made up entirely of EXs.
- First Pop'n Music game with extensive usage of BEMANI crossovers. Up until now, only Beatmania IIDX and Pop'n Stage songs got ported over to the Pop'n Music series, for the most part.

- Naoki Maeda of DanceDanceRevolution fame, as well as Noria from BeForU, make their Pop'n Music debuts.
- Last appearance of Kiyotaka Sugimoto until Pop'n Music 12 Iroha.
- Battle Mode upgraded with Hyper charts. Songs from Pop'n Music 6 and Pop'n Music 7 have their old charts moved to Hyper difficulty, while newer, simpler ones are used for Normal difficulty.
- Pop'n Music 8 CS is tied with Pop'n Music 6 CS, having the biggest and identical numbers of songs of any Pop'n console game at the time.
- First Pop'n Music game with a song to have a character with no 2P color palette, but a "twin" counterpart or another character. It is also to be coined as "Character Change".
CS[]
- Both the first Japanese Konami game and the first Pop'n Music game released with the new 2003 Konami logo. Early box showed the 1998-2003 bold Konami logo, however.
- First CS Pop'n to show you clear status for songs in Arcade mode.
- Last CS Pop'n to have all the hidden arcade songs from the previous installment brought over.
- Last CS Pop'n with Free Training Mode.
- THUNDER BIRDS and みなしごハッチ are absent from the songlist as they were deleted following 8AC.
